San Pablo is one of over 7,000 islands in the Philippines. This tropical island is truly spectacular with its stunning mountains and beautiful beaches.

The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the Philippines is the world's 5th largest country. With a population of approximately 100 million, multiple ethnicities and cultures are found throughout the Filipino islands.

The Philippines has seen low to moderate economic growth for the past 40 years and struggles to reduce poverty. With increased population rates, low economic growth, a weak agricultural sector and high rates of inequality, the Philippines suffers from significant food insecurity, low access to sanitation facilities, and natural disasters.

Nearly half of children in the Philippines suffer from malnutrition, and family and maternal health is a significant factor in persistent Filipino poverty. Additionally, children in the Philippines often lack access to educational opportunities. According to Unicef, the number of Filipino children who are currently out of school is at least 2.8 million.

As an island nation, you’ll be surrounded by water and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get wet. Your sightseeing will include a weekend in the picturesque Palawan region where you will explore an expansive underground river and snorkel in the ocean. The adventure will continue as you ride a series of ziplines and hop between islands. Lastly, you’ll take a boat out on the water after sunset to have your breath taken away by host of luminous fireflies dancing in the glow of a fading dusk.

On this trip, you will serve in the beautiful Manila Temple, the first temple constructed in the Philippines. It was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley in 1982.

The entire landmass of the Philippines is made up of islands. In fact, they have approximately 7,500 islands with only 2,000 of them inhabited and nearly 5,000 still unnamed on global maps. The Philippines is named after King Philip II of Spain. It’s estimated that Filipinos send about 400 million text messages every day, adding up to about 142 billion texts per year, earning them the title of 'the texting capital of the world'. The Philippines is the world’s largest exporter of coconuts and tropical fruits, such as papaya and mangosteen. There are approximately 175 languages spoken in the Philippines.
