All Builders will need a passport to travel. The passport must be valid for at least six months after you return back from your trip. Make sure there is ample room in your passport for the stamps in and out the place(s) you will visit on your trip. Anticipate needing 1-5 blank pages.

Passports can take between 4-8 weeks to process so it is best to start the process as soon as possible. You should have a copy of your passport uploaded to your your online Builder Checklist by the end of December (we will email you with a specific deadline after you register for your trip).

We are modifying our visa policies and we promise this will be a benefit to you. Though we do a lot of awesome stuff at HEFY, unfortunately, we are not a visa agency – which means all Builders will be responsible for getting the necessary visa for their trip. We will notify you in the late winter and early spring as to when you should begin working on your visa, but we will not be able to answer any questions about the logistics of obtaining the visa. Don’t stress though… we haven’t left you hanging. If your trip goes to Bolivia, Cambodia, Ghana, Mozambique, Kenya, or Zimbabwe, continue to section A. If you are not going to one of those listed countries, go to section B.

  1. You will be able to obtain your visa through one of two ways: contacting the consulate and processing the visa application on your own; or using a visa agency. If you do use a visa agency we recommend using Visability. We have a great relationship with the agency Visability, we are proud to work with them and trust them to help you complete your visa application and/or get a passport. Call them at one of the numbers listed, if you would like to use their services.

***Visability is a private company that charges a fee for their services. HEFY will not subsidize or cover the cost of either your visa, or the cost associated with obtaining a visa (i.e. shipping costs, or fees from travel agency).***

You will not need to begin working on your visa until HEFY notifies you. Due to the sensitivity and short period that visas are valid for in the countries we visit, we do not recommend trying to get this done too far in advance...just wait until we give you the green light.

B. The following countries do not need to get a visa before their trip:

Cape Verde

Dominican Republic

Yucatan Peninsula.

If you are going to one of the countries listed in Section B, you do not need to worry about getting a visa prior to your trip. All visa requirements and applications can be done in country upon arrival, and do not cost you any money.

*All of this information is outlined for US citizens, if you are not a US citizen please look up specific visa requirements for the country you are traveling to*
